LOVING A PRODIGAL: LEARNING TO LOVE

foreword

I love my prodigal. You love your prodigal.

But sometimes it’s not easy. Our love is tested, stretched. Unappreciated. Not returned—even thrown back in our faces. We grow weary and discouraged.

How do we keep loving as the years unfold? What does love look like when our prodigals keep making bad choices? We know that God’s love is truly radical. Let’s challenge ourselves to live it out, even with our prodigals. Even though we can barely scratch the surface of God’s deep love and His call to us to love as Jesus loved, let’s take time to intentionally focus on that love. Let’s explore its descriptions and qualities in God’s Word. Let’s try to understand more deeply what it means to love as Jesus has loved us.

This I know: I am not capable of that kind of love. Jesus set an impossibly high standard. So how? How do we love and keep on loving our often hard-to-love prodigals?
