Celebrating in Guatemala

I got to brush up on my meager Spanish this past weekend.  And I had the privilege of celebrating 50 years of our ministry in Guatemala.

I love to see faithfulness and fruitfulness coming together, and my husband and I saw that as we met with our Guatemalan staff and celebrated with them.

It was a thrill for me to see Dr. Guillermo and Olinda Luna, the founders of Cruzada Estudiantil and Profesional para Cristo in Guatemala.  I joined staff the same year they did, and then they headed home to begin the Campus Crusade for Christ ministry in their nation.

Staff numbers have grown, seeking to win, build and send multiplying Christ-centered disciples among students, community leaders, churches.  Ministries include the Jesus Film, families, children, humanitarian aid, athletes and other sectors of society.

Several days of events—my husband and I both spoke at different events—culminated in a big celebration with 300 guests.  Past directors, current leaders, the first woman staff member, volunteers and donors were recognized and honored.

My husband gave a great message (in my humble opinion) on “God Is Moving Today.”  He told stories of responsive hearts, dreams of Jesus, unity in the body of Christ, humble sharing among churches and ministries.  And then concluded, “The harvest is ripe.  When the harvest is ripe, you go to the fields.”

Once again, I did a little check—Am I fully into the harvest field where God has asked me to work?
