Blessed Alliance: Partnership with My Husband

This morning Steve and I, along with our travel assistants Bobby and Michelle, had a leisurely breakfast in the Newark airport. We had missed our connection last night and, after a short night, had time to spare as we waited for our flight home. It turned into a great time of partnership with my husband.

Bobby and Michelle peppered us with questions—about our dating and marriage, about life and ministry, about walking with God. Steve and I love to tell the stories of how God has worked in and through our lives, especially when we can encourage others in their walks with God.

Sometimes this partnership happens in small conversations. Often it occurs as we speak together. When we speak with students and young adults, they love to hear our love and marriage story, how we experienced God’s call to ministry, what it is like to serve the Lord together—and usually what we do for fun.

Frequently our preparation for speaking or writing becomes a partnership as well. We talk through a message or an article, getting wisdom and ideas from each other. Steve often gives me creative and logical approaches, suggesting good outlines or organization. I offer heart approaches and responses and recommend the best stories.Steve is always looking for ways to open doors for me, to encourage my writing and speaking ministry, to recommend me for potential opportunities. He is my best advocate. I hope I do as well in lifting him up.

Our partnership in marriage and parenting and ministry is truly a blessed alliance. We are better together in so many ways: complementing, encouraging, assisting, critiquing, affirming--and much praying! God has truly blessed this alliance He brought together. Always I am thanking Him for the joy and privilege of being married to and serving with this man.

What about you?  How have been blessed by partnership?
