June 2 Worldwide Prodigal Prayer Day: 7 I Ams of Jesus
Once a month I write a letter to the wonderful Prayer for Prodigals community I am part of. Often those letters, though specific to those who love a prodigal, apply to any or all of us in the challenging circumstances of life.
We have now entered into spirit and heart preparation for the June 2 Worldwide Prodigal Prayer Day. Each week we will be going to God’s Word with open spirits and hearts to hear from Him, to be ready to enter into the battle for the souls of the wanderers we love.
Dear Lover of Prodigals,
Right now—in the middle of a pandemic quarantine—what is your greatest need?
Health?
Freedom?
Peace?
Closure?
People?
Our God offers some answers.
In Exodus 3 Moses, in response to God sending him back to his Israelite people and to Pharaoh, asks, “Who shall I say has sent me?”
God answers: “Tell them that I Am sent you.” (Exodus 3:14)
I Am. What an amazing name!
The English grammarian in me sees that as the Great Present Tense. He is always here. No beginning. No ending. Always. Now!!
That is hard for us to comprehend. God is implying not only that He is ever-present, but also that He is everything we need.
John, in his Gospel, reveals how Jesus brings understanding and application of this to us. In the Book of John we discover seven statements of Jesus that tell us specific ways He is present with us, meets our every need and fulfills our deepest desires.
For this year’s June 2 Worldwide Prodigal Prayer Day, our theme will be “The I Ams of Jesus.” We will briefly consider what each I Am meant in Jesus’s time, what He provides for us and what He offers our loved prodigals.
The purpose is to prepare our hearts to come to God with our own needs and to help us to understand the needs of those we pray for. This will also equip us to do battle with the enemy of our souls—our own and our wanderers’—and to be part of God’s search and rescue effort on their behalf.
Join me each week between now and June 2. Take a few minutes to read and pray and ask God to speak to you. You can begin to pray the suggested prayer each week—perhaps you will see God answer your prayers even before we join together in prayer on June 2.
A prayer for this week: Lord, open my eyes, my mind, my heart to discover more of who you are and how you are always with me—and the prodigal I love—to meet our every need.
Trusting the Great I Am,
Judy
