Transformation Through a Prodigal Wilderness
Yesterday our son Josh turned 38.
He’s the prodigal who initiated our prodigal wilderness journey.
Over the years he made a lot of bad, even destructive, choices. Some were just his choices. But many grew out of the damage he experienced from fetal alcohol syndrome and other realities of his first eight years with his birth mother.
Whatever the cause, we had 20 challenging years, 15 of them real wilderness. The past 10 years have been better, hopeful, increasingly good, with a few dark times.
I share this brief background with you because we learned so much in that wilderness. About trauma. About boundaries and consequences. But also about unconditional love, consistent mercy and generous grace. And more.
You can learn along with me in the brief video above—”Transformation Through a Prodigal Wilderness”. This is a 30-minute presentation I gave at a virtual Christian Leadership Alliance conference. I believe you will find it real, honest, helpful and hopeful.
Yes, my story is about a prodigal, but the truths I talk about are true for so many situations and relationships in our lives. I thank God often for the transforming work in me that Josh contributed to.
I believe you will be blessed.
