Nothing
I am taking a break from blogging until after Christmas. I will post one of favorite blogs from the past each day. Enjoy. May God's Christmas blessings fill you with joy and peace.I remember when my grandson Ethan came home from the hospital with Debbie and Nick just over a year ago. Though 3 weeks early, he was still a big, healthy baby. But there was little he could do for himself. He could look around. He could poo and pee. He could cry. But he could do nothing to care for himself.NOTHING.If he was hungry, he cried. If he was wet, he cried. If he was cold, he cried. If his tummy hurt, he cried. His loving parents did their best to respond to each cry, to meet every need. That’s how we should be with God.He tells us in John 15:5 that “apart from Me you can do nothing.”NOTHING.Like Ethan, we need to cry out. “The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears them; he delivers them from all their troubles” (Psalm 34:17).When we cry out because we are lost, He will show us the way. When we cry out because we are hungry, He will feed us.When we cry out in pain, He will comfort us.When we cry out in anger, He will listen and calm us.When we need protection, or power, or a promise, He responds to our cries.Ethan just had his first birthday. He still needs Debbie, but he can do some things for himself now. And it won’t be many years before he can do almost everything for himself. Not so with us. We never outgrow our total dependence on God.Jesus Himself showed us the way. He said He could do nothing apart from the Father (John 5:30;8:28).NOTHING.He lived in total dependence on His Father. So must we!
