I'm Desperate for Him
I was listening to Michael W. Smith’s “Breathe” this morning—it gets me in such a right place for worship.
This is the air I breathe.
This is the air I breathe
Your holy presence living in me
This is my daily bread
This is my daily bread
Your very word spoken to me
And I, I'm desperate for you
And I, I'm I'm lost without you
But I think I respond in a different order.
First, I acknowledge that I am lost without God. Totally. I’m lost forever without what Jesus did for me. But I’m lost every day if I He doesn’’t give me His Spirit—and all the love, joy, peace He provides moment by moment. I’m lost and can’t find my way if He doesn’t show me.
And how often do I cry out, desperate for Him!?! Desperate for wisdom in a challenging situation, for courage and peace in a tough time, for perseverance over the long haul, for hope when all seems lost. But really, I’m just desperate for Him, for His presence!
Every day, He gives me my daily bread. He is the Bread of Life. And His Word is my sustenance. He feeds me as a mother feeds her newborn—filling me with Himself, growing me, strengthening me, energizing me.
Then I know that He is the air I breathe. He more than feeds me--He makes me alive. He lives in me. He never leaves me. He provides for my every need. I can live because of His holy presence living in me.
So yes, I am lost without Him. I am totally desperate for Him.
And there He is. Feeding, caring, providing—breathing His life into me.

What about you? Are you desperate?
