Loving a Prodigal: Trust in the Hard Journey
This is the first post in a weekly series of mini-devotionals on TRUST, which is the theme of the 2015 June 2 Worldwide Prodigal Prayer Day. This letter goes to the members of the Prayer for Prodigals community, but it is true for all of us.
Dear Lover of Prodigals,
The theme for the 2015 June 2 Worldwide Prodigal Prayer Day is TRUST.
Several of you suggested Faith, and others said Hope. I believe we will engage both faith and hope as we look at Trust. Brennan Manning defines “trust” as “faith in action.””
Our objective will be to deepen our trust in God in our daily walk, and especially as we love and interact with our prodigals.
As part of my preparation and study for this, I am rereading Manning’s Ruthless Trust, a book that has had profound impact on my life. Time and again Brennan has sent me to God’s Word, and that is what we will do over these next eight weeks leading up to June 2.
We will consider why we can trust God, and how we can trust Him. And we will look at how that trust will affect our lives and our loved ones. Here are a few words from our God that I hope will establish our hearts on Him and prepare us to be able to trust Him at all times:
“…so do not fear, for I am with you. Do not be dismayed for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you, I will uphold you with my victorious right hand.” (Isaiah 41:10)
“When I am afraid, I will trust in you.” (Psalm 56:3)
“I am still confident of this: I will see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living. Wait for the LORD; be strong and take heart and wait for the LORD.” (Psalm 27:13,14)
“Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord is the One who goes before you. He will be with you; He will neither fail you nor forsake you.” (Deuteronomy 31:8)
And this will be our theme verse:
“You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.” (Isaiah 26:3)
So please join with me each week as we seek to grow in Trust for our Father and be ready to engage in spiritual battle on behalf of our beloved prodigals.
Trusting in Him,
Judy
What about you? What has helped you to trust God?
