I Have Gifts for You—and The Mystery of Prayer
Giving gifts is one of my very favorite things.
It’s been true for a long time. I don’t remember it growing up, but in my adult life it has been a highlight.
Giving to the Red Kettle, to homeless people I encounter, to Angel Tree for the children of prisoners. Compassion keeps sending me pictures of children needing to be chosen—they know I can barely resist. And to those who tell the world about Jesus.
Sometimes when my kids give me a list to choose from, I give them everything on the list. My husband encourages a little more restraint.
And of course my 10 grands. Joy overflows as I choose and send for each one. I’m sad that this year I won’t be with any of them as they open their gifts.
Giveaway books
So I will give gifts to my readers—to a few and to all.
First, I am giving away seven signed copies of When You Love a Prodigal or Shaped by God. All you have to do to be entered into a drawing is respond to this post, telling me you have sent it on to someone else. On December 21—the night of the “Christmas star”—I will draw seven names to receive a book. I will contact you to ask which book you want and where to send it.
A gift for everyone
But I also have a gift for everyone reading this. Not long ago I wrote “The Mystery of Prayer” (see picture above). When I read it to people, they always want a copy. My friend Gordana Sjostedt designed an art background for it. A PDF is available on my website: The Mystery of Prayer. Just click and print—it’s yours, for yourself and anyone you would like to give it to. (Or one of the other printables: “A Blessing for a Loved Prodigal” or “The Voice of Grace.”)
May your celebration of the birth of our Savior be filled with joy and peace and awe!!
What gift have you loved to give?
