Aug 2023 - Grandparenting and Brain-Gut Connect
One of the joys of my life is grandchildren. I thank God every day for the 10 grands he has gifted to me (and Steve). With thanks to our children—Debbie and Nick, Michelle and Brad, and Josh and Lesley.
They all miss their Papa, and I feel the responsibility to do even more to grow deep relationships with them. I get to learn how to play chess (it’s been a long time), sit still as I get fresh make-up applied, and tell stories from the past—mine and Steve’s.
Grandparenting Help
Legacy Coalition is proving to be a great encouragement and help as I—and thousands of others—am getting practical help in being intentional as grandparents.
I recently had brunch with Larry and Diane Fowler, the founders of Legacy Coalition. As they sought to connect well with their grands, they searched—and found—many resources to help them on their journey. They realized many other Mimi and Papa’s were also looking, and Legacy Coalition was born. First came a Summit—a yearly gathering for grandparents to hear motivational and practical messages and receive some great resources. Learn More about Legacy Coalition Here
Covid led to Grand Monday Nights, an hour online program with a wide variety of speakers, presentations and resources. I had the privilege to present a session on the role grandparents can play when there are prodigals in the family.
Paul Eshleman Memorial Service
I told you last month that Paul Eshleman was called Home. I imagine Paul and Steve are having a great time in Heaven.
You will be greatly blessed if you watch Paul’s Memorial Service. Watch Here
The Brain-Gut Connect
As part of my “visit all my kids” summer, I spent several days with Michelle and her family. Michelle is the founder of Full Well Neuro, a counseling/therapy/neurofeedback center.
I got to sit in as she and another woman presented a great seminar on The Brain-Gut Connect. It was fascinating and informative.
Glimpses of Steve
One of the favorite things we did four times a year was address the New Cru Staff during their initial training. During Covid we did it virtually, from which we got a great video. We are back in person, but Steve isn’t here. So now I give a brief introduction, and we show the video.
August and Peaches Go Together
You may have tried my Famous Peach Cobbler. It is wonderful but a lot of work. If you need something quick and easy, try this Easy Peach Pie given to me by G.P. Foote years ago.
Ingredients
1 ½ cups of sugar
1 cup of milk
1 cup of flour
1 stick of butter, melted
2 cups of peaches, peeled and cooked with ½ cup of sugar
Mix 1 cup of sugar, milk, flour, butter together. Add peaches. Place in cake or pied pan. Bake 45 minutes at 425. Let set and cool slightly. Serve with vanilla ice cream (preferably Blue Bell).
Blessings,
Judy
