October 2025 - Surgery & Health Update
Dear Friend,
Wow, for a person with never a broken a bone, with her only time in the hospital was to have two babies by c-section, who has rarely been sick, this has been an eventful summer.
This will be a different letter—all about my summer of hospital adventures. (You can read about my May and June adventures here and here.)
So on to September. My Cru Women’s Resources team sent out this letter for me:
Dear Praying Friends,
I am so grateful for your faithful prayers for me over the years. I am writing now to share with you a special prayer need.
Earlier this week, I had an accident that caused me to severely fracture my right shoulder. I was walking through the kitchen with my laptop in my hands trying to find a good internet connection. Unfortunately, the dishwasher door was left open, and I tripped and fell over it and onto the floor. I went to Centra Care for x-rays, where they discovered three fractures. They sent me to the hospital for further examination. They determined that, at the time, I didn’t need surgery, put my arm in a sling, and told me to follow up with an orthopedic surgeon within 5 days.
The Lord was gracious enough to allow me to see the surgeon within 3 days. He showed me the x-rays indicating severe fractures and I am now scheduled for surgery this next Tuesday, September 9th . My estimated recovery time is 4 – 6 weeks. My Women’s Resources team and Cru friends are caring for me, and my daughter will come next week.
I am grateful for your friendship and support and ask for your prayers for my upcoming surgery and recovery.
With deep thanks,
Judy
It’s been three weeks since the surgery. I am healing well, pain is lessening, I have started therapy. Two daughters, a friend, and two sisters so far have come to help. Let me share with you these thoughts I posted on Facebook:
As I sit here in a slow healing, helped and encouraged by God’s presence, a great doctor, family and friends, people serving as my right arm/hand, many cards and gifts and well wishes, I continue to be encouraged by John Ortberg's short videos on Shine. Today's was so good; https://becomenew.subspla.sh/z6zgmyz
Someone suggested I look at this as a sabbatical, but it’s not my idea of a sabbatical. But it is a real gift from God, one for which I can say “Thank You, Lord” as I learn to wait and rest in Him.
May God surprise you with His blessings,
Judy
